Medical resources

By Ellen Kramer (MCPH, RSHom)

Medical resources is a term used to describe databases covering medical matters. There are many of these databases. Of specific interest to CAM practitioners is the Allied and Complementary Medicine TM site which is a unique Medical resources database covering the fields of complementary or alternative medicine and allied health information. Databases do not give you information as such but they do signpost you to where you might get the information you require.

As a medical resources site, descriptors used in indexing the records are based on MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). The information in this medical resources database will be of interest to anyone who needs to know more about alternatives to conventional medicine, such as: doctors, nurses, podiatrists, and other medical practitioners, therapists, and members of health care libraries, specialist colleges, self-help groups and the pharmaceutical industry, as well as allied health professionals like physiotherapists and occupational therapists whose practice is conventional.

It indexes approximately 400 biomedical journals regularly, and relevant articles are taken from other journals. The database includes English-language and European sources; newspapers and books are also indexed.
